Aberdeen, Hong Kong
The Area
Traditionally a fishing village, Aberdeen has transformed into a busy hub for industrial and residential use, boating and other recreational purposes. There is still a large element of its old past intact, which gives Aberdeen its charm and clout among destinations for tourists. Among the popular destinations are the floating Jumbo and the Tai Bei Seafood Restaurants in Aberdeen Bay which are serviced by Sampans shuttling customers through the marina. Other facilities located here are the Aberdeen Marina Club, a member’s only club with beautiful facilities for families and boat owners who have their boats moored in the harbor. Walking the old Hong Kong Tsai streets lead to the Hung Shing (God of the South Sea and Weather Prophet) Temple at the junction of the sea lane, land road and Tin Hau (Queen of the Heavens and the Protectoress of the Seafarers) Temples.
Transportation
Aberdeen is not covered by the MTR line which goes as far west as the Sheung Wan station. There are though, many buses and minibuses which make Aberdeen a part of its bus route allowing Aberdeen to be easily accessed from Central, Causeway Bay and many other hubs. The Aberdeen tunnel ($3 charges) links Causeway Bay and Aberdeen making traveling to the South Side very easy.
Schools
The Canadian International School and the Singapore International School are located along Nam Long Shan Rd.
Leisure, Entertainment, Shopping
As mentioned above, one of the main attractions in Aberdeen is the Floating JUMBO Restaurant. Both Chinese and Western menus are available on board. Ocean Park is another popular destination for families and young people for a day of fun in the labyrinth of water slides, roller coasters, animal sanctuaries and a spectacular view from the gondola. You can also find boats for hire in Aberdeen which cater to the water sports enthusiasts who wish to try their hand at skiing, boogie or wake boarding. For shopping centers and markets, Horizon Plaza, a whole industrial building designated for whole sale of antique Chinese and other imported furniture is frequented by many for their interior decoration needs.
