Central, Hong Kong
The Area
Central is the commerce, finance, legal and political district of Hong Kong. All the major multi-national companies, banks, law firms and Government institutions and consulates are located in this area. This is one of the most prestigious commercial center and one of the busiest hubs of Hong Kong. Among the sky scrapers, there are some very beautiful and historical buildings that have been preserved such as the Cenotaph in Statue Square, the former French Mission building, the Fringe Club, the Government House, the Legislative Council, the St. John’s Cathederal, the Western Market and the Peak tram. Some of the world’s most prestigious hotels and long established churches or places of worship are found in the area. There is a transient population of around 300,000 or more and many who also make the central or the SOHO/Mid-Level area their home.

The Cheung Kong Center, the AIG Tower, the Nine Queen’s Road Central, the Prince’s Building, the Hutchinson House, the Bank of America Tower, the Hong Kong Club, the Citibank Tower, the Alexander House, the Entertainment Building, the HSBC Hong Kong headquarters building, the City Hall, the Bank of China Tower, the Two International Finance Center, the Exchange Square, the Jardine House the Court of Final Appeal, the Star Ferry, The Landmark, the Queen’s Pier, the legislative Council Building and The Cenotaph.
Transportation
It is a very busy destination for much of the public transportation system. This includes buses, minibuses, taxis and trams. It is also a part of the MTR line where multiple exits are found to all major destinations. There are several ferry piers with ferry services to all of the outlying destinations from the IFC.
Schools
There are several learning centers, but no major international schools located in the central area. The only major institution will be the Hong Kong University which is located on Bonham Rd.
Leisure, Entertainment, Shopping
If you are looking to do some shopping, Queens Road and Des Voeux Road are the 2 major streets in Central or where the prestigious retail shops are located or the more hidden Li Yuen St. East and West for the best places for bargains. Antique lovers will find an array of collectibles by escalator to Hollywood Road and Cat Street. Soho and Lan Kwai Fong are the hot spots for night life, entertainment and cuisine.
