From Sheung Wan heading towards the West including Kennedy Town is what is known as Island West. Traditionally an industrial and local residential area, Sheung Wan features many factory and old residential buildings. Yet, with its proximity to Central, this area is transforming into a modern residential district attracting expatriates of all nationalities. The Belcher¡¦s, The Merton, The Elites Place are a few of the developments which are giving Sheung Wan this recognition. Its environment, unlike much of the Mid-Levels, has more open space, greener areas particularly towards Kennedy Town, and has become a focus of new developments in recent years due to the MTR line extension to Kennedy Town due to be completed in 2008.
