Historically Kowloon Tong was a large village located in the present-day Police Sport Association near Boundary Street. The rivers from Beacon Hill made the land very fertile for cultivation. In the 1920¡¦s, the Hong Kong Government developed the lands east of Kowloon Tong and proper Kowloon Tsai on both sides of the Kowloon-Canton Railway into a low density residential area based on the British model, thus making it Kowloon Tong. The area is well-planned and the broad roads and streets are largely named after the counties in England as a result of its large population of wealthy residents. Kowloon Tong is now known for its luxurious residential houses in or around LaSalle Road, Kadoorie Avenue and Oxford Road. These houses can fetch up to $HK100 million. It is home to many celebrities, movie-stars, CEOs and other billionaires. ¡@ Some of the well known areas in Kowloon Tong are Beacon Hill, Festival walk, Broadcast Drive and the head quarters for Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) TVB and ATV.
