Hong Kong Domestic Helpers
Hong Kong homes are well equipped to accommodate live-in domestic helpers (with private maid rooms and separate toilet facilities) whose services play an important role in supporting the workforce of Hong Kong. The majority of domestic helpers are from the Philippines followed by Thailand, Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka. The current minimum wages are set at HK$3,270 for full time/live-in helpers. To employ a helper, one must sign a two year contract. As in all employment bound contracts, there are a number of rules and regulations as well as conditions an employer is required to abide by and prove. There are regulations in terms of employment eligibility, minimum wage, rights and obligations, restrictions on deployments, change of residential address and contract termination policies.
