Owning Pets in Hong Kong
The Agricultural and Fisheries department is responsible for the quarantine regulations of Hong Kong. One of the hardest decisions when moving from one country to another also extends to our pets. It is most heartbreaking to part from them and more and more people are bringing pets to Hong Kong despite unfavourable living environments and strict quarantine regulations.
The Public Health (Animal and Birds) ordinance Cap. 139 and the Rabies Ordinance Cap. 421 are enforced through regulating the import of animals and birds for the prevention and introduction of animal diseases.
You can import pets relatively hassle-free from the countries including most European countries, USA, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. However it is advisable to find out the full details before you make your final decision.
Details are found through the following website: Director of Agriculture and Fisheries:

One can also get a pet through the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). www.spca.org.hk 2802 0501
